My DisOrders

I have been experiencing a lot of sleeping problems lately. If you would notice, most of my blog posts are health related. Oh well, i think im suffering from a minor insomnia! Not only do i get nightmares often, like times that i feel like my body is paralized while asleep. You are actually aware of whats happening around you yet you cant scream or move from your position. Geesh! One of the scariest nights i had.. not just one but THREE consecutive sleep paralysis experience.

Clearly, i have sleeping disorder. Why am i not surprised to experience more! During college, i noticed that my feet gets so stressed before actually falling asleep. It is VERY irritating! you tend to relax your muscles but that doesnt seem to work. So even though i really very sleepy i have to do stretchings and what not. I found out just recently, that it is a "known" disorder. Its called "restless leg syndrome". What da!?Knowing that i became more paranoid with the situation. Sleepless-Restless nights! This will soon drive me insane-promis! I get to sleep for 3-5 hours tops everyday! looking seriously doomed during shift. Haaai!

Now im thinking-There might be something really wrong with me!! Don't cha think?

Here's a heads-up to what im talking about. You might be experiencing the same. Join me-let's see a doctor!!

What is restless leg syndrome?

Restless leg syndrome is a common cause of painful legs. The leg pain of restless leg syndrome typically eases with motion of the legs and becomes more noticeable at rest. Restless leg syndrome also features worsening of symptoms during the early evening or later at night. The characteristic nighttime worsening of symptoms in persons with restless legs syndrome frequency leads to insomnia.

Restless leg syndrome usually begins slowly. Over time, the legs become more affected. Less frequently, restless leg syndrome can affect the arms.

What causes restless leg syndrome?

The cause of restless leg syndrome is unknown in most patients. However, restless leg syndrome has been associated with pregnancy, obesity, smoking, iron deficiency and anemia, nerve disease, polyneuropathy (which can be associated with hypothyroidism, heavy metal toxicity, toxins, and many other conditions), other hormone disease, such as diabetes, and kidney failure (which can be associated with vitamin and mineral deficiency). Some drugs and medications have been associated with restless leg syndrome including caffeine, alcohol, H2-histamine blockers (such as Zantac and Tagamet) and certain antidepressants (such as Elavil).

Occasionally, restless legs run in families.

Breathing Exercises

Try these breathing exercises. I find it fun and it helps me in making out to sleep.

Alternate Nostril Breathing
© Roger Jahnke O.M.D.

Holding one nostril closed inhale and exhale slowly and deeply. Then hold the opposite nostril closed, inhale and exhale deeply. This breath is often done in preparation for deep relaxation or meditation. You will notice that usually one or the other of the nostrils is more open. If you breath on a small hand mirror, the patch of mist from one nostril will be larger than from the other. The ancient practitioners of Yoga in India were aware of the significance of this and employed this knowledge to enhance health and consciousness. Western science did not notice this phenomena until the 1800's. It has been found recently, through the application of current neuro-science, that the practice of alternate nostril breathing helps to balance the right and left hemispheres of the brain.

Applications Suggestions:

  • Health maintenance: 10 to 12 repetitions, 2 to 3 sessions per day.

  • Health enhancement: 10 to 12 repetitions, 4 to 6 sessions per day.

  • Disease intervention: Start slowly and build up to 15 to 20 repetitions, 8 to 10 sessions per day or up to even 100 repetitions in a single session.

  • Getting started: 10 to 12 repetitions, once or twice per day. Notice that this method is very quieting.
Full Chest and Abdominal Breathing

This method is simply a deepening of the breath. Take slow, deep, rhythmic breaths through the nose. When the diaphragm drops down, the abdomen is expanded allowing the air to rush into the vacuum created in the lungs. Then the chest cavity is expanded, allowing the lungs to fill completely. This is followed by a slow, even exhalation which empties the lungs completely. This simple breath practice done slowly and fully, with intention, concentration and relaxation activates all of the primary benefits of therapeutic breath practice. In Qigong and Pranayama the breath is retained for additional benefit.

Application Suggestions:

  • Health maintenance: 6 to 10 repetitions, 2 to 3 sessions per day.

  • Health enhancement: 6 to 10 repetitions, 4 to 6 sessions per day.

  • Disease intervention: Start slowly and build up to 15 to 20 repetitions, in 10 to 15 sessions per day.

  • Getting started: 2 to 3 repetitions, once or twice per day. Remember to keep it easy and fun.

What I do ~10.07.06 7:54am

i guess a lot are wondering what my new account is. What we do and what our customers are. Actually, we all thought it's "petiks" here. But guess what-it's like working in a pure office environment. We answer to like 400 inquiries through email a-day. We sometimes accept calls-customer service or call-out to "users" when they have questions.

What am i talking about? Our account is Zillow.com. It is an online real estate service dedicated to helping people get an edge in real estate by providing you with valuable tools and information. Valuable means "value". What's your home's worth? So if you live in US, you get to seearch your house, find details about it and edit several upgrades you made in your house. There's also a "bird's eye view", im sure you guys are familiar with it! it's pretty cool! you get to see houses in 3-dimension. :)

Zillow.com - Your Edge in Real Estate

And again, what do we do? We are the "Community Administrators". We are the POLICE of the website. We handle email concerns they send. And we basically kick people who place "foul" terms and all.

In this small team, we are Faye, Joanne and Mel! We are positive on this one simply because its practically a -baby-. They started only this February and whatever development and new stuff they launch-we get to see and experience them real time. We grow with them. We get to understand evry bit of the website. Hehe.. May sound silly but its really interesting. Knowing their plans for the site and all-their in fact ambitious! they're taking a huge leap of faith for their "goals".

Still, we are all looking forward and with hopes up for this account.

So there!!!!!! That's what i do. :) its a friday-sat production! Blog Monday for ALL!

wake me up

wow CLIO! thanks for mentioning me on your blog. oh well! its a wake-up call for me! that i should start blogging once more!!!! i miss you guys-DR! though i'm having fun here--you guys are still--THE BEST! Why BLOG?

  • It's an outlet of feelings. (If you feel like no one would listen and actually hear you, internet is one solution to lessen the feeling)
  • A trend. (its what's IN. WEB 2.0!) Thats BLOG!
  • Sharing ground. Like how we download mp3, movies, themes, wallpaper, etc. We can also get to share our thoughts. Like CLIO said, "i enjoy writing and wa ako care if others dont enjoy the things i write".
  • As IS! you can get to place pictures, whether yours or you took somewhere off the internet, still-graphics are like the living demonstration of you-your reaction and your life!

Blog (as defined by Wikipedia): A blog is a website where entries are made in journal style and displayed in a reverse chronological order. Blogs often provide commentary or news on a particular subject, such as food, politics, or local news; some function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic.

Let me see.. I just might be back to keep this Blog kickin! Again--Thanks CLIO!
